Fall 2012 Prospective Instructor Information

All applications are due by Noon on Monday March 12, 2012 (see below for a list of application materials). Applications should be sent to Jessica Mansbach (via email, or in hard copy to 162 Student Services Building). Required training sessions will be held on Tuesday May 1, 2012 from 1pm-5pm and Thursday May 3, 2012 from 10am -2pm. Attendance at both sessions is required.

What is EAD 315?
EAD 315 is a highly interactive class that provides undergraduate students the chance to explore leadership in their own lives and in the world around them. EAD 315 is a three-credit, pass/no pass course. Curriculum topics include leadership theories, leadership skills, self-awareness and efficacy, communication, diversity, interculturalism, ethics, teamwork, and group dynamics. Instructors are encouraged to facilitate both experiential and discussion-based learning that enables students to practice and reflect on the leadership skills they develop during the semester.

To enhance the learning experience for both students and instructors, sections are generally team-taught. Instructors are encouraged to identify their own teaching partners, but we may be able to provide some assistance upon request. Interested individuals with prior teaching experience may be able to teach by themselves. Often the experience is used as part of the academic program plan. Graduate students interested in obtaining practicum credit should speak with their advisor.

Application Materials

  1. Applicant Self-Assessment Form (To be sent to you via email)
  2. Two references (Forms to be sent to you via email).
    • Currently enrolled graduate students must submit one reference from their advisor, and one from their current supervisor.
  3. Personal statement (500 words maximum) explaining your motivation for teaching, past teaching and/or training experiences and why you believe you can successfully teach leadership at the undergraduate level.
  4. A resume or CV

On your application, please note the name of your teaching partner, and the section(s) you might like to teach. Section information can be found online, at http://schedule.msu.edu/. You may also indicate a day/time preference not currently listed.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  I look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,

Jessica Mansbach
