Tenure-track Faculty Position: Fort Hays State University

This is a full-time nine-month tenure-track position (with summer teaching available) in the Department of Advanced Education Programs in the College of Education & Technology at Fort Hays State University with teaching responsibilities in at least one of the following areas: Student personnel management; Higher education; Research; Leadership; Evaluation/assessment; or other related areas with the department.

The primary function of the position is instruction, with the expectation that the faculty member will also engage in scholarly activity and university/professional service. The areas of responsibility are typically in a proportion of 60% instruction, 20% scholarship, and 20% service.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Instruction – The candidate filling this position will be expected to teach the equivalent of 12 credit hours per semester, which will primarily be at the graduate level. Instructional responsibility will include teaching mediated and distance learning masters level courses in the advanced education program. The candidate may also supervise student practicum and internship experiences.
  2. Student Advisement – Student advisement at the graduate level is a part of the instructional responsibility of this position. Student advisement includes career counseling plus class schedules and degree summaries.
  3. Scholarship – A commitment to scholarship is required and may include book publications, writing grant proposals, development of innovative educational programs, conference presentations, and published articles.
  4. Service – A commitment to service activities is required and may include national, regional, state, or local professional involvement and other services activities at the department, college, university, and community levels.

Required Qualifications/Experiences: Earned doctorate degree or ABD in appropriate related area

Preferred Qualifications/Experiences:

  1. School and/or community counseling experience;
  2. Student personnel management experiences;
  3. Instructional experience in a college or university;
  4. Distance education experience;
  5. Experience in the application of educational technology in virtual and traditional learning environments;
  6. Demonstrated experience of mentoring and supervising graduate students;
  7. Demonstrated record of scholarly activity; and service to the larger community;
  8. Demonstrated commitment to professional service activities.
