<p><strong>Job Summary<br />
</strong>The Director of Research, in collaboration with other Programs and Research department staff and AGB&#8217;s senior staff, develops and executes a robust and strategic research agenda. This individual participates in the association&#8217;s efforts to advance its strategic plan and contributes to AGB&#8217;s programmatic and publications agendas.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Minimum of three years&#8217; experience in research design and analysis. Ability to frame research and write about findings for non-technical higher education audiences, such as trustees, presidents, other administrators, policy makers.</li>
<li>Preference given to individuals with working knowledge of and experience in higher education and with a familiarity of pertinent areas such as governance and trusteeship, state level policy, or college and university administration.</li>
<li>Experience using national data sets.</li>
<li>An advanced degree.</li>

<p>Candidates are sought to complement the existing strengths of the faculty in a spirit of collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement. Candidates should be intellectually curious and committed to: teaching, student and program development; scholarship; and enhancing our connections with practitioners in the field. The selected candidate would contribute to community building among students, faculty, and practitioners.</p>
<p><strong>Required Qualifications:<br />
</strong>Earned doctorate or ABD in Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field, three years of professional experience in higher education, and evidence of or potential for scholarship. It is desired that the successful candidate has a mix of the following experiences and interests: college teaching/student affairs practice; working with diverse populations; knowledge appropriate to the student affairs graduate program curriculum; and research methodologies.</p>

<p>*** The Postdoctoral Fellowship has undergone an applicant qualification change. Please note the new eligibility requirements pertaining to the date in which the doctoral degree was earned. ***</p>
<p>The NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship Program supports early-career scholars working in critical areas of educational scholarship. Fellows will receive $55,000 for one academic year of research, or $27,500 for each of two contiguous years, working half time. Fellows will also attend professional development retreats and receive mentorship from NAEd members and other senior scholars in their field. Applicants must have had their PhD, EdD, or equivalent research degree conferred between January 1, 2008, and December 31, 2012. This fellowship is non-residential, and applications from all disciplines are encouraged. Up to twenty NAEd/Spencer Fellowships will be awarded. <p>The NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship Program seeks to encourage a new generation of scholars from a wide range of disciplines and professional fields to undertake research relevant to the improvement of education. These $25,000 fellowships support individuals whose dissertations show potential for bringing fresh and constructive perspectives to the history, theory, or practice of formal or informal education anywhere in the world. Fellows will also attend professional development retreats and receive mentorship from NAEd members and other senior scholars in their field. This highly competitive program aims to identify the most talented emerging researchers conducting dissertation research related to education. The Dissertation Fellowship program receives many more applications than it can fund. This year, up to 500 applications are anticipated and about 25 fellowships will be awarded. <li>Assist with freshman and transfer new student orientations as well as participate in advising and registration sessions for returning and readmitted students each semester.</li>
<li>Plan, coordinate, and assess current advising models to make recommendations on procedures, and practices to improve student services.</li>
<li>Utilize technology to communicate with students in the most effective ways.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Master’s degree in appropriate field with a preference for Student Affairs or Business.</li>
<li>Knowledge of academic advising models and practices and understanding of international education.</li>
<li>Willingness to embrace innovative advising practices through the use of technologies.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to participate in a team environment and to make a positive contribution toward the mission and vision of the organization.</li>
<li>Adept at interacting with others in a professional and collaborative manner.</li>
<li>Excellent leadership skills and ability to manage sizable projects, delegating when appropriate.</li>
<li>Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse body of faculty, staff, and students.</li>
<li>Excellent oral and written communication skills.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>At least one (1) year of experience working in academic advising or counseling.</li>
<li>Experience working with Business; Consumer Appeal and Retail Studies; or Hospitality and Tourism majors.</li>
<li>Experience with Banner; NolijWeb; CAPP, ShareNet, Blackboard Collaborate.</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Michigan State University hosted the first annual &#8220;Learning Abroad Conference&#8221; on November 2, 2012, co-sponsored by the Office of Study Abroad, the Office for International Students and Scholars, and the Faculty Learning Community on Teaching and Learning Abroad. It featured presentations from students who returned from international learning experiences and international students currently studying abroad here in East Lansing. The presentations included a variety of formats from poetry to journal entries to video, and more. In addition, faculty workshops were held where experienced program leaders shared their thoughts on reflective practice, post-program engagement, faculty motivation for offering these learning opportunities, and assessment of learning outcomes.</p>
<p>The second annual Learning Abroad Conference will be held November 15, 2013, 12:00 &#8211; 7:00 p.m. in the International Center.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Program Director of Student Organizations and Leadership in the Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching and Service (CSJ) at Georgetown University.</p>
<p>The Program Director of Student Organizations and Leadership is a full-time position responsible for connecting Georgetown students to service and social justice opportunities through student organizations, leadership and student development programs. The position is also responsible for advising student organizations and supporting the work of CSJ’s Advisory Board for Student Organizations (ABSO) as well as coordinating the First-Year Orientation to Community Involvement.  Additionally, this position assists in supporting the Alternative Spring Break program. These programs and student organizations supplement students’ academic experience and allow students to connect what they learn in the classroom with what they experience through their community engagement work. The Program Director participates in Center for Social Justice activities and acts as a representative of CSJ in university-wide activities, such as cross-departmental committees, position searches and student organization activities.</p>
<p>Student Organizations and Leadership is one of four professionally-staffed programs and consists of more than 50 student-directed social justice organizations which complement the research and curricular work of the Center. The Program Director tracks and monitors expenditures associated with programs, alternative spring break trips, and all student-run organizations and is responsible for documenting this information.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong> Minimum of three years experience in higher education student affairs, student development, student leadership development, special events planning, training, education, social service, volunteer management and/or community organizing; good oral and written communication skills. Experience working with college students, volunteers and diverse communities a plus. Computer skills, including familiarity with desktop publishing and database programs. Ability to work some weekends and evenings and driver’s license are necessary.  Familiarity with Georgetown and the metropolitan DC community is preferred.</p>
