Ed. Week blog lists Heller in “public presence” ranking of scholars

January 6, 2012

This week the Rick Hess Straight Up (RHSU) blog on Education Week published the 2012 Edu-Scholar Public Presence rankings. The list, as Hess writes, is designed to recognize university-based academics who are contributing most substantially to public debates about schools and schooling.

Coming in at No. 83 is Donald Heller, who became dean of the College of Education at Michigan State University on Jan. 1. Dr. Heller’s expertise is in university administration and the role of higher education in today’s society. He has testified before lawmakers and been called to consult on higher education economics, policy and finance for university systems and policymaking organizations in several states.

Several former MSU College of Education faculty members also are on the Public Presence list, such as Gary Sykes, David Cohen, Andrew Porter, Deborah Ball and David Labaree.

Read more about the rankings, including how Hess (of the American Enterprise Institute) measured “public presence.”
