In memoriam: Legendary golf coach Bruce Fossum

Former Department of Kinesiology associate professor and legendary Michigan State men’s golf coach Grover “Bruce” Fossum died recently. He was 86 and a resident of Okemos, Mich.

Fossum spent 30 years teaching at MSU and authored two books: “GOLF” and “Golf Made Easier Not Easy.” He is remembered by those within the MSU athletic community as an inspiration to many.

For 25 years, Fossum was the Spartan men’s golf coach. He founded the women’s golf team prior to Title IX being implemented, and his wife Mary became its first coach from 1973 through 1997. Fossum is included in the Golf Coaches Association of America’s Hall of Fame.
