September 1, 2011

On Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, Gov. Rick Snyder announced five new additions to the Michigan Women’s Commission, a sector of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. Among the five appointed is Anne (Brook) Thompson, an administrative supervisor and program manager for the Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education (CEPSE) department within the Michigan State University College of Education.

Thompson will serve as vice chair of the commission and will lead the Initiative on Women Veterans Issues. A veteran herself, Thompson has contributed 20 years of service to the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. She has been involved in several veteran associations, including the Ingham County Veteran Affairs Committee as treasurer of WAVES National Unit 32, and NUWARINE Post 535 of the American Legion as commander. She also founded the chapters of Woman Officers Professional Association in Norfolk, Va. and San Diego.

“I am excited to be part of a group of individuals and organizations that is engaged in supporting our underserved population of female veterans, and to serve all women and their concerns in the state of Michigan,” Thompson said.
