Janel Rutzen, a recent graduate of the Michigan State University College of Education, was honored with the 2011 National Outstanding Student Leader of the Year award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
Rutzen initially won the CASE Affiliated Student Advancement Program District 5 Outstanding Leader of the Year award in February. She was nominated by Dan DiMaggio, director of the Student Alumni Foundation and assistant director of the MSU Alumni Association, as well as MSU Broad College accounting senior Mike DeBona.
During her time at MSU, Rutzen held multiple leadership positions, including CASE ASAP student representative for the Great Lakes district and vice president of alumni engagement for the SAF.
Rutzen earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education (mathematics) this past May, and graduated as an academic scholar. She is currently the program coordinator for the SAF.
