Knowledge for Sale: The Neoliberal Takeover of Higher Education
September 15, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm EDT
A new philosophy of higher education has taken hold in institutions around the world. Its supporters disavow the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake and argue that the only knowledge worth pursuing is that with more or less immediate market value. Every other kind of learning is downgraded, its budget cut.
In “Knowledge for Sale,” Lawrence Bush challenges this market-driven approach and reveals its limits.
Lawrence Bush—Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Department of Sociology—will be on hand to discuss this recently published book. Respondents include Alyssa Dunn from the Department of Teacher Education and Stephen Gasteyer from the Department of Sociology.
This is a presentation of the Friday Forum, a venue for MSU faculty, staff, students and administrators to discuss the transformation of public higher education through the imposition of market logic and relations.
