ADDRESSING STIGMA AND QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

The evolution of Katherine’s research has focused on combating the stigma of mental illness leading to examining differences in substance use disorders. Her work will expand on this by addressing the impact of stigma across the broader spectrum of people with disabilities and developing interventions to foster self-advocacy and goal-attainment.

Bio: Katherine Nieweglowski, MS, CRC, LPC, is completing her final year as a doctoral student at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). Over the last six years, she served as a clinical research associate at the National Consortium of Stigma and Empowerment at IIT conducting independent and federally-funded research on stigma and healthcare disparities. Katherine’s passion to become an educator and scholar in the field of rehabilitation counseling stems from the desire to promote empowerment and inclusion amongst people with disabilities.
