BEI is a nonprofit organization that utilizes brain exercises, such as reading out loud, writing, and math, as a preventative intervention to improve cognitive function and reduce memory loss in the elderly diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Canvases for Communities (CFC)
Canvases for Communities (CFC) is a service organization that provides art education, art therapy, and outreach to various communities in the Lansing area such as a local elementary school and Origami Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center. CFC offers members opportunities to develop skills related to lesson planning, volunteering, and public event curation and is open to all majors. Exercise is Medicine® On Campus (EIM-OC) calls upon universities and colleges to promote physical activity as a vital sign of health. EIM-OC encourages faculty, staff, and students to work together toward improving the health and well-being of the campus community by: Making movement a part of the daily campus culture, assessing physical activity at every student health visit, providing students with the tools necessary to strengthen healthy physical activity habits that can last a lifetime, connecting university health care providers with university health fitness specialists to provide a referral system for exercise prescription. Future Leaders In Sports & Entertainment, FLISE for short, is a registered student organization at Michigan State University striving to prepare students for careers in the sports and entertainment industry. Meetings are bi-weekly throughout the school year to hear from professionals in the industry and participate in professional development workshops. The primary objective of FLISE is connecting students with professionals in the sports and entertainment industry and allowing members to gain exposure to different aspects of the industry while building a personal and professional network. MSU Minorities Ma’KIN’ Moves is a student-led organization that seeks to create and continually cultivate an academically and socially attainable space where underrepresented Kinesiology graduate and undergraduate students can unite to establish an inclusive community. Membership is open to all, including those who are not from underrepresented groups. The goals of MMM are to build lifetime friendships, provide leadership experiences, enhance knowledge of the Kinesiology major, and provide connections within desired career paths. MSU Adaptive Sports & Recreation Club
The MSU Adaptive Sports & Recreation Club seeks to create and continually cultivate a physically and socially accessible space where athletes with physical disabilities and able-bodied volunteers come together to establish an integrated community of peers which uses sports to validate the disability experience by eradicating inaccurate societal stereotypes and invalid self-perceptions about disability. MSU Athletic Training Club (MSU ATC)
The purpose of this organization is to improve awareness, knowledge, respect, and communication at the local, state, and national levels of athletic training. MSU Best Buddies
Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our programs empower the special abilities of people with IDD by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society. Through their participation, people with IDD form meaningful connections with their peers, gain self-confidence and self-esteem, and share interests, experiences and activities that many other individuals enjoy. Read to Succeed
Read to Succeed gives students the opportunity to volunteer as tutors for local children who are struggling with reading and writing. As part of the MSU Student Literacy Corps, the program serves elementary school students in East Lansing and Lansing before and after school, and there is an evening option for K-12 students from other school districts. Special Olympics Michigan State (SOMSU) is an organization that connects college students and individuals with intellectual disabilities through sport to build friendships, have fun, and create an atmosphere of acceptance and respect.
