Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Special Education Leadership: Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) prepares educators to become experts in the implementation of MTSS.

MTSS fosters a positive school climate that supports the academic, behavioral, and social needs of all students through forms of disciplined inquiry and data-informed decision-making.

This 15-credit graduate certificate program is fully online and designed for working educators.

Program graduates will be equipped to:

  • improve student achievement and reduce problem behavior by accurately identifying studentsā€™ needs through comprehensive assessment
  • provide evidenced-based interventions in academic and behavior supports
  • offer academic and behavioral support to students who might be at risk of school failure, including facilitating the identification of and intervention for students who may have disabilities.

Course Requirements

The certificate in MTSS requires completion of:

  1. All of the following courses (12 credits):
  • CEP 809 (3) Data-Driven Instruction in MTSS
  • CEP 804B (3) Literacy Instruction for Students with Disabilities
  • CEP 802A (3) Mathematics Instruction for Students with Disabilities
  • CEP 803A (3) Assessment of Students with Mild Disabilities

2. One of the following courses (3 credits):

  • CEP 841 (3) Classroom and Behavior Management
  • CEP 844 (3) Applied Behavior Analysis for Teachers

3. Completion of a final examination or evaluation
