College of Education Community:
The events on campus in the late hours of February 13 were horrific, senseless, and tragic. As representatives from MSU Police and Public Safety said in a press conference early on February 14, this is a “nightmare” for our campus. I echo their sentiments that, while our entire campus community is relieved the active, emergent threat is over, there is a great need for healing in the days, weeks, and months ahead.
All campus activities are canceled for 48 hours, including athletics, classes, and all campus-related activities. Though there is no longer believed to be an imminent threat to campus, please do not come to campus on Tuesday, February 14, per MSU Police and Public Safety. The shelter-in-place order is lifted.
Fellow Spartans, wrap each other in empathy and grace as we mourn and process. Look out for one another. Provide support when and where you can and ask for support when needed. The university provides Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) and the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for those seeking assistance with their mental health.
Supervisors and colleagues, please provide reasonable flexibility to your fellow Spartans who may need space during this challenging time.
Leaders from MSU Police, the university, and the college will share more information as it becomes available.
Stay Safe,
Jerlando F L Jackson, PhD
