Centering Possibility in Black Education

When considering novel approaches to advancing education justice for Black youth, what might it mean to lead with possibility, rather than the problems that they face? Life in the Americas is eternally mired in the legacy of chattel slavery. Building from this premise, contemporary Black education scholars compellingly argue the myriad of ways education in the U.S. is a violent enterprise. In this talk, Dr. Warren imagines the concept of possibility as a necessary disruption to Black people’s ongoing pain and suffering in school. The talk ultimately aims to cast vision for Black education transformation into the future—emphasizing the imperative that research, policy, and practice are centered on, and guided by, the limitless potential inherent to blackness and being Black.
