Coffee & Conversations: Role of Women in the Civil Rights Movement

The Women of Color Community (WOCC) planning committee invites you to join a Coffee & Conversations session with Jennifer E. Cobbina-Dungy, Professor, School of Criminal Justice, Michigan State University as part of MSU’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. Cobbina-Dungy will be discussing the role of women in the Civil Rights Movement.

Speaker:
Jennifer E. Connina-Dungy
Her primary research focuses on public response to police use of force. She also focuses on prisoner reentry and the understanding of recidivism and desistance among recently released female offenders. Finally, she examines how the intersection of race, gender, and neighborhood context shape victimization risks among minority youth.
Cobbina-Dungy was awarded the 2021 Albert J. Reiss Distinguished Scholarly Publication Award from the American Sociological Association Crime, Law and Deviance section, given in recognition of her book: “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot: Why the Protests in Ferguson and Baltimore Matter and How They Changed America.”
