Coffee With The Profs

One of the MSU Alumni Office’s long-standing featured offerings, the Coffee with the Profs series highlights research and work done by some of MSU’s finest faculty and staff. This lifelong education program is open to all.
This fall, participants will not be joining us in person on campus. Instead, it’s a virtual experience that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Registration opens Sept. 8, 2021.

There is a movement at land grant and other universities to offer land acknowledgments. Land acknowledgments are statements intended to affirm and honor Indigenous histories and relational connections to land and sovereignty. As these statements grow in popularity, it becomes important to consider what these statements mean within the context of the contemporary land grant system. This presentation will use the context of MSU’s land grant identity to delve into the policy, history, and meaning behind land acknowledgments and tangible ways to put these statements into action.

Whether it’s a golf swing or playing the piano, the ability of humans to learn motor skills is unparalleled. In this presentation you’ll gain a better understanding of what happens when we learn a motor skill. You’ll learn more about some of the issues and controversies surrounding the role of practice, what’s critical to facilitate learning and several challenges in developing effective training paradigms, especially in the context of rehabilitation.

Shopping Online? All That Glitters Is Not Gold: A Dive into the World of Trademark Counterfeiting

There is a current phenomenon of online shopping through e-commerce and social media and the sale of counterfeit goods to consumers. This presentation will explore the ever-changing legal landscape, as well as initiatives being taken in the U.S. to address this issue to make it safer for consumers, as well as for brands and the economy.
