Community Screening: “The Great American Lie”

January 22, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm EST

The Marble Elementary School Equity Team is presenting a community screening of “The Great American Lie.” All members of MSU, the East Lansing community and beyond are welcome to attend. The film is free and open to the public.

This is a documentary that exposes economic immobility and social inequality in the U.S., viewed through the lens of gender.  The film weaves together stories of five main subjects who are each struggling with aspects of America’s inequality. The film runs 1 hour and 27 minutes. Watch the film trailer.

Immediately following the screening will be a brief panel discussion featuring:

  • Terah Chambers (E. Lansing Board of Education member and professor of educational administration at MSU where she is co-director of the Urban Education Graduate Certificate and director of the Doctorate in Educational Leadership program)
  • Jordan Evans (of One Love Global, focused on liberation, equity and social justice for underserved individuals and communities)
  • Melissa Fore (fixed-term faculty at James Madison College, MSU teaching diversity and inclusion with a focus on understanding white privilege and the ways in which it informs and feeds the systems of white supremacy)
