Depression, Anxiety, and Other Common Mental Health Challenges in Youth

Help continue conversations around mental health and well-being. Many youth struggle with mental health challenges, and as concerned parents, teachers, and community members we know that we want to support them. Come learn about the most commonly diagnosed mental health challenges in young people as well as ways to help them be successful in managing them.

- Compare key differences between youth mental health and adult experiences
- Identify and practice basic coping skills for supporting youth with mental health challenge

About the Speaker: Jennifer Cronkite is the prevention therapist for the Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties Families Forward. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling from Michigan State University and has been a part of CMHA-CEI for over 10 years. After 6 years as a home-based therapist and 3 years as a Children’s Crisis Services clinician, she moved into the position of Prevention Therapist, where she now collaborates with community partners to promote awareness of and access to mental health services, to prevent youth suicide, and to develop and implement community health and wellness initiatives. She is currently the chair of the TriCounty LifeSavers, a youth suicide prevention coalition, and has volunteered as part of the planning committee for the Lansing/Capital Area Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention walk for the past three years. She is also a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid and QPR trainer.
