Don’t Be Afraid to Train the Brain: Examination of Neurophysical Responses After Sports-Related Injury

This lecture will discuss current research that examines injury-related neuroplasticity in corticolimbic areas of the brain after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and implementation of psychoeducation techniques to decrease injury-related fear in this population. Methods to obtain external funds, avenues for collaboration within and outside the department, and future research directions, including examination of neuropsychological interventions on injury-related fear will be discussed.
About the speaker:
Ms. Shelby Baez is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Kentucky. She completed her undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Athletic Training from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Post-Professional Master’s of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Kentucky.
