Ed Policy & EAD PD Group Workshop

October 10, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

RCR Requirements & Research Ethics

Introduction to RCR Requirements (1:00 – 2:00 p.m.)

All graduate students are expected to complete a mixture of online and face-to-face educational experiences that adhere to the guidelines of MSU’s plan for the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR). This workshop will provide information about the requirement of the education/training plan.

This portion is intended for first-year students who are just learning about the RCR requirements, but all students are welcome to attend.

Research Ethics (2:00 – 3:00 p.m.)

Your Data Were “Anonymized”? These Scientists Can Still Identify You: How computer scientists have developed an algorithm that can pick out almost any American in databases supposedly stripped out of personal information.

We will discuss what this means for student and teacher data; was the decision by these researchers to post their code ethical; and what would some of their proposed changes mean for our research. This portion is for all students.

This discussion counts as time toward RCR training hours.
