Institute for the Study of Youth Sport Anniversary Conference

2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports (ISYS). To celebrate the legacy of ISYS a major conference focused on Current Issues and Future Directions in Sport for Children and Youth will be held. The Kellogg Conference Center here at Michigan State will serve as the conference venue and the conference will begin on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 29 and conclude on Saturday evening December 1, 2018.  The overall aim of the conference is to bring the best scholars in the world together to discuss the state of scientific knowledge on sport for children and youth.

Conference goals are fourfold. These include:

1. Advancing the scholarly study of youth sports;
2. summarizing the state of knowledge of key issues including sport specialization, parent involvement, overuse injury, and participation motivation and withdrawal;
3. identifying critical areas for future study; and
4. celebrating ISYS’s 40 years of research, outreach and leadership in youth sports.

In addition to the scientific program, ISYS hopes to have many of its former graduate assistants who have completed their degrees gone on to pursue their professional careers to return to campus not only for the conference but to take part in an ISYS alumni reunion social which will take place on Friday, November 30^th.
