Interdisciplinary Approach to Identify People at Risk for Knee Osteoarthritis

The Department of Kinesiology presents a research presentation from Dr. Matthew Harkey.

Matthew Harkey is a musculoskeletal researcher whose goal is to identify people at increased risk for knee osteoarthritis to better target interventions that prevent the onset or progression of disability. His talk will focus on his recent laboratory- and epidemiology-based research studies using an interdisciplinary approach with techniques from biomechanics, exercise physiology and structural imaging to identify people at risk for knee osteoarthritis.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Harkey completed an undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Athletic Training from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a master’s degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Athletic Training from the University of Toledo. His Ph.D. is in Human Movement Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently finishing up a collaborative post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Tufts Medical Center with a focus of imaging and epidemiology in knee osteoarthritis.
