Leadership of Kinesiology Departments within Contemporary R1, Land Grant Institutions: Challenges, Opportunities, and Future Directions

Brian C. Focht’s presentation will provide an overview of his research agenda and address unique considerations for academic leadership of Departments of Kinesiology in contemporary R1, land grant institutions.

Dr. Focht is a professor of Kinesiology, vice chair of the Department of Human Sciences and chair of the Human Development and Family Sciences program in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University. Focht’s research interest is in the area of exercise and health psychology, focusing upon the role of lifestyle weight management interventions in translational health promotion and disease efforts. Focht is the founding director of the Exercise and Behavioral Medicine Lab, has over 90 scientific publications and has been awarded more than $7 million of extramural funding supporting his research from the National Institutes of Health (NIA, NCI, NIAMS, & NIDDK) and the American Institute for Cancer Research.

Focht is a Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology, Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, and a National Strength and Conditioning Certified Association Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Focht has also served as a consultant to the National Institutes of Health, Italian Ministry of Health, and Canadian Cancer Society.
