Kinesiology Speaker Series: Samantha Scarneo-Miller

January 20, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm EST

Scarneo-Miller works to improve overall safety at the youth sport and secondary school settings by advocating for enhanced health and safety standards at the state and local levels. Her current research focuses on the evaluation of current adoption of best-practice standards to reduce catastrophic injury outcomes associated with participation in sport (i.e., exertional heat stroke, sudden cardiac arrest, traumatic brain injuries, exertional hyponatremia).

During this presentation, she will focus on the factors influencing adoption and implementation of best-practices in the secondary school setting. Future directions for this research, including the development of tailored strategies to improve adherence to these guidelines will also be explored.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. Samantha Scarneo-Miller is currently completing her post-doctoral fellowship at the Korey Stinger Institute at the University of Connecticut. She received her undergraduate degree (B.S.) in athletic training from the University of New Hampshire with subsequent graduate degrees (M.S., Ph.D.) in exercise science from the University of Connecticut.
