MSU College of Education Distinguished Lecturer: Dr. Howard Stevenson
December 2, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am EST
The Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education (CEPSE) is sponsoring a virtual visit with Dr. Howard Stevenson, a national expert on how racial stress and racial trauma can affect children and families. We seek to enhance our students’ knowledge and competencies as it relates to serving racially and/or ethnically diverse children and their families in schools, communities, and clinics. As part of his visit, Dr. Stevenson will provide a College of Education Distinguished Lecture focused on his book, Promoting Racial Literacy in Schools: Differences that Make a Difference.
You are invited to attend his lecture which will be held in Erickson Room 252 or can be accessed via Zoom (password: equity).
Dr. Howard Stevenson is the Constance Clayton Professor of Urban Education, Professor of Africana Studies, in the Human Development & Quantitative Methods Division of the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Stevenson is the Executive Director of the Racial Empowerment Collaborative, designed to promote racial literacy in education, health, and community institutions. Dr. Stevenson’s research focuses on helping children and adults assert themselves during face-to-face microaggressions.
