OISE Research in Progress
March 19, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am EDT
I hope you can join the second in our spring series of OISE gatherings focused on sharing research in progress. Our first session, in which four of our doctoral students shared their research underway, provided stimulating discussion. I know many of us in our community are eager for more such chances to learn about international/global education research going on, share research interests and questions, and find ways to network with others who have a similar scholarly interests. Ā I hope you can join the conversation next week..Ā
Ā
Like the February gathering, this session will include a brief āIgniteā-like or TED-talk like presentations by colleagues, with breakouts afterward that allow people to join with others to discuss the topic/area/theme they choose. Everyone in our community is invited.
Ā
The March 19thĀ session will feature the work-in-progress of:
- Alex Allweiss,Ā āItās more secure being in two placesā: Maya immigrantsā visions of decolonial citizenship and transnational belonging
- Amita Chugdar (Co-researchers:Ā Jainisha Chavda, Vanika Grover, Shota Hatakeyama),Ā Educational experiences of families in low-income urban settlements: Mixed methods research from Mumbai, India
- Jungmin Kwon,Ā Immigrant children as young transnational and multilingual experts
- Alyssa Morley (Co-researcher: Rachel Silver, York University, Canada),Ā Returns at Risk: COVID-19 and Girlsā EducationĀ
Each presenter will briefly share their work, after which we will move into four breakout rooms for further conversation. This is a great opportunity for building or strengthening community around shared interests in international or global education. Those sharing research can get feedback, learn about othersā interests, and just have others to talk through research with at a time when many of us are feeling more isolated than weād like. These gatherings also allow all of usāwhether you share your research or notāto build ties with colleagues around research themes, ideas, or regions of the world.Ā
