Sonya Gunnings-Moton Lecture: Cynthia Dillard

In honor of Dr. Sonya Gunnings-Moton’s significant contributions to diversity and equity in the MSU College of Education, we are proud to announce the Inaugural Dr. Sonya Gunnings-Moton Lecture featuring Dr. Cynthia B. Dillard (Nana Mansa II of Mpeasem, Ghana, West Africa).

Dr. Dillard currently serves as the Dean of the College of Education at Seattle University. Her prior appointment was as the Mary Frances Early Professor of Teacher Education in the Department of Educational Theory and Practice at The University of Georgia. Her research interests include critical teacher education, spirituality in education, and African/African American feminist studies. Aside from being an academic leader, prolific scholar, teacher and sought after speaker, Dean Dillard runs a preschool through middle grades school in a rural community in Ghana, West Africa.

This lecture is co-sponsored in the College of Education by the Office of DEI, The Department of Teacher Education, the Department of Educational Administration, and the Urban Education Speakers Series; and by the Department of African American and African Studies in the College of Liberal Arts.
