“The Who, What, When, Where and Why of Community-Based Physical Activity Interventions: A Lifespan Perspective”
February 19, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EST

Ryan Hulteen is a candidate for the community-based position in the Department of Kinesiology. Hulteen is an Assistant Professor in the School of Kinesiology at Louisiana State University. Hulteen will present his research on February 19, at 1:00 pm in IM Circle 217.
Presentation Abstract:
Physical activity is important for health and can be improved through implementing behavioral interventions. One of the most prominent issues facing our field is the lack of success in creating sustainable, scalable interventions that can ‘live on’ in their respective communities. In this presentation, I make the case that our best way forward is by harnessing technology and incorporating group dynamics to create sustainable change. To effectively incorporate technology and group dynamics requires a reinvestment into understanding ideal delivery mechanisms, assessment methods, and the changing needs of the populations we work with. Evidence from school, workplace, and e-health interventions targeting populations across the lifespan will be provided.
Biography:
Ryan Hulteen is an Assistant Professor in the School of Kinesiology at Louisiana State University. He has studied and worked in three countries including the U.S., Australia and Canada. His research agenda takes a developmental, lifespan approach to better understand 1) the development and implementation of scalable, theory-based interventions, 2) measurement and assessment of physical activity and motor skills, and 3) the importance of physical activity and motor skills on health-related variables.
