The Department of Educational Policy, Research and Administration in the School of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking candidates to join a dedicated and accomplished community of faculty, students, and staff as a faculty member, Assistant Professor, in Higher Education Administration. This is a full-time tenure track position beginning in September of 2012.

The School is NCATE-approved and offers a comprehensive program leading to Master’s and doctoral degrees. We share a fundamental commitment to social justice and the pursuit of educational excellence. Located in the beautiful Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the flagship campus of the Commonwealth’s university system and is a leading center of public higher education in the Northeast.

Higher education faculty members contribute to the core courses for the Policy & Leadership doctoral program.  We are seeking a colleague to continue this tradition and collaborate with other higher education faculty members to serve the department by offering such courses and by taking administrative leadership roles.  In order to generate externally-funded projects, the successful candidate will work with the Center for International Education and the Center for Education Policy on research projects of interest, and might work with the Student Assessment, Research and Evaluation Office (SAREO).

Qualifications: earned doctorate in Education or a related discipline with application to postsecondary educational settings; established publication record or indication of considerable promise; experience teaching or strong potential to teach at the university level; and the ability to work effectively with learners of diverse cultures and backgrounds. Relevant background for the position includes the study of higher education with expertise in any of the following areas – leadership, organization, or policy; and expertise in quantitative or qualitative research methods.

Responsibilities: teach graduate-level courses in higher education administration with emphasis on leadership, organization, policy, or student affairs administration; conduct research and engage in outreach related to aspects of leadership and policy studies in education; contribute to graduate education at the certificate, master’s and doctoral levels; utilize blended learning technologies, and contribute to the School’s undergraduate curriculum.
