Graduate Research Associate- American Council on Education

I hope the new year is off to a great start! The Center for Policy Research and Strategy (CPRS) at the American Council on Education (ACE) is seeking candidates for our 2018-19 Graduate Research Associate Program is quickly approaching.Interested applicants have until March 16 to submit their materials.


The Graduate Research Associate Program is housed in CPRS, and is designed to provide graduate students a ‘real-world’ policy research experience within a leading national higher education association. Representing the interests of campus executives and leaders of higher education associations and organizations, ACE provides leadership on key higher education issues and influences public policy, institutional strategy, and practice through advocacy, research, and programmatic initiatives.


CPRS collaborates with other ACE divisions (e.g., the Center for Educational Attainment and Innovation, the Center for Internationalization and Global Engagement, Leadership, and the Division of Government and Public Affairs) and broader stakeholders to produce original reports, issue briefs, and convenings that provide policy audiences and institutional leaders with acute insight, rigorous analysis, and on-the-ground application. Key areas of research include: 1) diversity and equity in higher education in the 21st century; 2) dynamic and resilient institutions; 3) transformational leadership in postsecondary settings; and 4) internationalization and global engagement.


The primary responsibility of a Graduate Research Associate is to support and work with CPRS to conceptualize, design, produce, and disseminate research in support of ACE’s mission, programs, and services. Graduate Research Associates are expected to attend internal ACE meetings when necessary as well as policy conferences and events outside the organization. Applicants must be currently enrolled in or have recently completed an accredited master’s or doctoral degree program.


Position Requirements:


–        Knowledge of current issues in higher education, specifically related to CPRS’ themes and work

–        Strong analytical skills

–        Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative methods with advanced training and research experience in one of the two

–        Excellent written and oral communication skills and propensity to thrive in a team environment

–        Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task competing projects and priorities and work independently

Salary: $3,250 per month. The position is a 9 month commitment (35 hours/week) beginning in September 2018.
