KIN-nections Academic & Career Newsletter – Jan. 11, 2016

January 12, 2016

Happy New Year and welcome back to snowy East Lansing! A few reminders as you get started with your classes:

Walk-In Academic Advising

  • Walk-in advising times only will be offered during the first week of classes: 9-11 a.m. and 1:30-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, January 11-15.
  • Individual advising appointments will resume starting Monday, January 18. Watch for availability through the online scheduling system. Regular walk-in advising hours for the semester are Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday from 2-4 p.m., and on Thursdays from 9-11 a.m.
  • To schedule an advising appointment, please go to the COE website at http://education.msu.edu/academics/undergraduate/advising-scheduling.asp to access the current system and schedule an appointment time.

Drop/Add Period

  • Reminder – the last day to add classes to your Spring 2016 schedule is Friday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m.
  • Overrides will not be processed for full sections of KIN classes. Instructors cannot authorize overrides for full sections. Students can, however, take advantage of the “Alert” system in case a seat opens in a section that works with their schedules.
  • Any override requests for non-KIN courses must be approved and processed by the specific department offering the course. Departmental contact information is located on Schedule of Courses in the upper right corner when you pull up the course you want to take. You can usually call or stop by to request the override. Some departments post a link for override requests right on their website.

KIN Internship Info & Pre-Internship Meeting

  • SENIORS who plan to intern and graduate in SS15 must be enrolled in KIN492 or 493 by the January 16 deadline! If you have not submitted your Internship Site Approval Request to Keri Morrison, please do so ASAP so an override can be processed and you can be enrolled in the class you need to graduate. More internship info is on the website.
  • JUNIORS planning to intern in summer or next year should attend one of the KIN Internship MANDATORY INFORMATION MEETINGS: Tuesday, January 13 OR Wednesday, January 14, 7:30-9 p.m., Room 137 IM Circle. Don’t forget to attend!
  • PLANNING AN OUT-OF-STATE INTERNSHIP? If you are doing an out-of-state internship in US15 or considering one in another state for next year, please check out new regulations on the KIN website at http://www.education.msu.edu/kin/undergrad/kinesiology/493Internship.asp. Some states require a letter of intent for out-of-state interns. Failure to comply could result in the denial of your internship site. Contact Keri Morrison at klm@msu.edu if you have questions.

Apply for Graduation!

  • SENIORS: Don’t forget to apply for graduation! This should be done during the semester before you plan to graduate. Go to the Registrar’s Website at www.reg.msu.edu and click on the Graduation & Honors link. It is your responsibility to make sure you are on track for graduation so please check to make sure all program requirements will be complete by the time you want to graduate! You can check your requirements, using Degree Navigator.
