Thanksgiving and winter breaks can be a good time to think about your job or summer internship search. We’d recommend that you start by using Handshake to help you identify possible opportunities or potential companies and organizations of interest.
How To…Log in to Handshake
Go to msu.joinhandshake.com and log in with your MSU Net ID and password. FYI – you will keep your access to Handshake for 2 years after graduation.
How To…Navigate the Site
Handshake is pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. Use your Home page to see suggested jobs, internships, or events that match your career interests as set in your Profile. If you see a job you like, favorite it! This will help you find it more quickly the next time you log in just in case you want to apply. You can also use the Search function at the top of the page to seek out opportunities using key word or company searches. Click on the links to the left to explore jobs or internships, make an appointment with a career advisor, or search for an event. Give it a try!
Why it’s important to update your profile, favorite jobs and follow employers
Handshake works a lot like Netflix in the way that it remembers what you’ve viewed. If you favorite a job at say, a rehab clinic, it will remember that and suggest other similar positions or companies as they become available on Handshake. It will also read your profile to determine if you have all the qualifications needed for the positions posted. Remember, a lot of companies look for transferable skills, not major. So don’t be surprised if you see suggested positions that don’t exactly match your major or career aspirations.
How To…Search for Jobs/Internships
Keyword searches are best when using Handshake. Choose keywords that match our major and your interests, including rehab, sports, exercise, fitness, health, wellness, therapy, etc. You can also search by location, job type, employment type, and industry area, but we recommend to keep this open if possible. You will have better results if you do.
