Although many Kinesiology students express interest working in health practitioner positions (think Physical Therapist), some have explored and found great success working in other types of positions that support healthcare. Over the last couple years, more and more KIN grads have gravitated toward working in pharmaceutical or medical sales as a viable option with a KIN bachelor’s degree.
KIN Alumni Profile: Alexis Burdo, Pharmaceutical Sales Representative
According to the MSU Destination Survey in any given year, one-third or more of all Kinesiology graduates heading into the workforce report working in a business-related position. Alexis Burdo, a 2015 KIN graduate, is one alum who found success in a health-related sales position. She states that having a background in Kinesiology was an asset to getting hired in pharmaceutical sales.
A strong background in science helped me to excel…and better understand product knowledge, disease states and become a resource to physicians and their staff.
In addition, Alexis received a full-time offer after completing a summer internship with Eli Lilly, a company that recruits MSU students for their competitive internship program each year. Qualities that make someone a good candidate include leadership, creativity, and critical thinking to name a few.
