Giving to Kinesiology

This web site describes the outstanding academic, research, and outreach programs in the Department of Kinesiology. Our accomplishments are stronger than ever, and the reputation of the department continues to grow. Alumni and friends play a key role in this success through their pride in the department, efforts to refer promising students to MSU, participation in department activities, and gifts to the department. The following are ways that you can give to MSU Kinesiology.

KINESIOLOGY ANNUAL FUND

As you consider your commitments this year, please include a gift to the Department of Kinesiology’s Annual Fund. Your gift of any amount will help to accomplish the following objectives for the department:

  • Scholarships and professional development funds for undergraduate students
  • Fellowships to assist the Department in recruiting the top graduate students
  • Funding to help attract and retain outstanding faculty
  • Funding for laboratory equipment

When you make a gift to the Department of Kinesiology’s Annual Fund, you not only contribute to the department’s ability to positively impact the lives of students, you also help to increase the department’s alumni participation rate. Alumni giving has a direct impact on the university’s ranking in several national publications, including U.S. News & World Report. These national rankings allow us to attract the best and brightest students, and also enhance the value of all degrees received from Michigan State University – including your own!

For additional information about the Department of Kinesiology Annual Fund or to designate a gift, please contact Dr. Panteleimon “Paddy” Ekkekakis, Chairperson of the Department of Kinesiology at (517) 355-4731 or by email at ekkekaki@msu.edu.

ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS

The Department of Kinesiology is indebted to the alumni and faculty members whose generous donations have made scholarships available to our students. These contributions help to defray the ever-increasing costs of tuition, room and board, and textbooks. The awards and scholarships section of this web site includes descriptions of endowed undergraduate and graduate student scholarships, as well as bios for the donors of those awards. We invite contributions from alumni and friends to fund additional scholarships, continue existing scholarships, or increase the amount of funding so that awards can be larger or that more students can be supported.

To discuss your contribution plans, please contact Dr. Panteleimon “Paddy” Ekkekakis, Chairperson of the Department of Kinesiology at (517) 355-4731 or by email at ekkekaki@msu.edu.

INTERNSHIP SETTINGS

Many KIN undergraduate and graduate students complete internships as part of their required academic experiences. Internships help students to practice the skills and use the knowledge acquired in KIN courses, as well as to learn new on-the-job skills. The Department of Kinesiology always needs additional internship opportunities for students. These internships may be either paid or unpaid. The primary criterion is that students placed at various settings will have a great educational experience under a well qualified mentor.

If you wish to offer an internship site or supervision, please contact Dr. Panteleimon “Paddy” Ekkekakis, Chairperson of the Department of Kinesiology at (517) 355-4731 or by email at ekkekaki@msu.edu.
