Glen O. “Pete” Cooper
Glen O. “Pete” Cooper, professor emeritus of teacher education, died April 17, 2015. He joined the faculty at MSU in 1966, and served as director of the Elementary Intern Program in the Greater Lansing area and taught in the Graduate Studies in Education Overseas program in many parts of Asia. He retired in 1984.
James W. Costar
James W. Costar, professor emeritus of education, died July 27, 2015. He was an alumnus of the college, graduating in 1958 with an Ed.D. in Guidance and Personnel Services. He taught at the college for more than 30 years, and served as chair of the Department of Counseling, Personnel Services and Educational Psychology before retiring in 1987.
James M. Crowner
James M. Crowner died Feb. 16, 2015. He graduated from the college in 1960 with a Ph.D. in teacher education, and in that same year, also became chair of the special education area. He was a pioneer of educating teachers of emotionally disturbed children, and in 1962, founded the national Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders. He taught at MSU from 1958-65.
Professor Emeritus Charles E. Henley died March 22, 2015. He initiated and served as director of several education programs in Indiana before becoming a professor of special education in the MSU Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education. He joined the faculty in 1968, and retired in 1984.
Pauline “Polly” Hess
Pauline “Polly” Hess died Aug. 1, 2015. She served MSU for more than 45 years, joining the faculty in 1952 and retiring in 1998. She was the advisor and coach for the cheerleading team, in addition to coaching the fencing club and teaching many one-credit activity classes during her career.
Irvin J. Lehmann
Professor Emeritus Irvin J. Lehmann died Aug. 12, 2015. He specialized in statistics and educational measurement and was a faculty member at MSU for nearly 50 years, retiring from the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education in 1998. He often returned post-retirement to teach as a fixed-term professor.
Wanda May, professor of teacher education, died March 30, 2015. She studied arts education, teacher’s action research and feminist/critical studies, among other areas. She joined the faculty in 1986 and retired in 2009.
