Barbara Markle, assistant dean for K-12 outreach at Michigan State University‚s College of Education, will receive the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators (MAISA) Education Fellows Award.
Markle will be honored at a June 21 luncheon during MAISA‚s summer conference, held at the Doubletree Hotel in Bay City.
The MAISA award is given annually to an individual or individuals who places service above self interest, who advocates for programs and services of public education, and who has shown leadership on behalf of public education or who performs public service on behalf of MAISA, independent school districts or K-12 education.
Markle, who earned her Ph.D. from MSU, is an advocate for education reform. She develops and implements programs for teachers, administrators and policy makers that translate educational research to application in schools and settings where education policy decisions are made. She directs several state and federal grants, and also works closely with the Michigan Department of Education, the State Board of Education and the state‚s professional education associations. Under her direction, the Office of K-12 Outreach sponsors education conferences on current issues, international education study tours and monthly forums for legislators and other policy makers.
