Four MSU interns honored in MATE Student Teacher/ Intern of the Year Competition

Michigan State University teaching intern Lauren Stevenson was recognized as the second place winner in the 2010 MATE Student Teacher/ Intern of the Year Award Competition during a reception on May 20 in Ypsilanti, Mich. Three other MSU interns – Colleen Chick, Colleen Gitter and Shalyne Love – received honorable mentions in the annual contest.

MATE is an organization for individuals actively involved in the professional growth and development of pre-service and in-service teachers. The Michigan Student Teacher/Intern of the Year compeition is designed to encourage individuals who are preparing to become teachers to demonstrate exemplary teaching skills.

Stevenson completed her internship in a second-grade classroom at Vandenberg World Cultures Academy in the Southfield Public Schools. Her cooperating teacher was Vicki Lenhard and her university supervisor was Judy Thompson.

Chick was in a first-grade classroom at Hoover Elementary in the Hazel Park schools. Her cooperating teacher was Sue Watts and her university supervisor was Grace Vereen.

Gitter taught fifth-grade at Seminole Academy in Mount Clemens Community School District. Her cooperating teacher was Shelley Davis and her university supervisor was Carolyn McKissic.

Love completed her internship in a first-grade classroom at Sheridan Road Elementary in Lansing School District. Her cooperating teacher was Vici Bryde and her university supervisor was Emily Moore.
