NSF awards grant to Teresa Tatto and colleagues

March 25, 2010

Maria Teresa Tatto and her colleagues — Jack Schwille, Amita Chudgar, Mark Reckase, Sandra Crespo, Raven McCrory, and Tenko Raykor — have received a NSF grant to begin research on The First Five Years of Mathematics Teaching. The study investigates novice teachers’ (with 0-5 years experience) development of mathematical knowledge for teaching and the influence of previous preparation, school context and opportunities to learn-on-the-job, on that knowledge. The study builds on the TEDS-M study which examines how pre-service teacher education impacts future teachers’ mathematics knowledge for teaching in 17 countries, including the US. The new study extends that work and seeks to provide empirical data related to key policy affecting the recruitment, induction, development and retention of primary and secondary teachers of mathematics. Congratulations all!
