Graduate Named Michigan’s 2012 Superintendent of the Year

November 30, 2011

The Michigan Association of School Administrators (MASA) has named College of Education graduate Tina Kerr as the 2012 Michigan Superintendent of the Year. Kerr is superintendent of Coldwater Community Schools (CCS).

MASA Executive Director William H. Mayes visited the Coldwater Board of Education meeting  on November 21, 2011 to announce Kerr’s selection.

“This is a most prestigious honor,” said Mayes during the presentation. “You can be proud to have been chosen from a group of highly qualified nominees.  It is clear to me – as it was to our selection committee – Tina Kerr is a new-generation leader who has re-built strained relationships, set bold academic goals and energized a community around education.”

Kerr gives recognition to the K-12 Educational Administration doctoral program in the Department of Educational Administration by stating, “As a 2005 graduate, this certainly confirms what I already knew… MSU helps prepares its graduates for the future. I truly believe my education at Michigan State helped me receive this wonderful recognition.”

As the MASA honoree, Kerr also becomes a finalist for the National Superintendent of the Year Award.
