Remembering professor emeritus J. Bruce Burke

The College of Education would like to extend great sympathy for the loss of beloved professor emeritus J. Bruce Burke, who passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011 in Sarasota, Fla. Interment will be held at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Toledo, Ohio, on Aug. 27, 2011 at 11 a.m.

From 1964 to 1999, Burke contributed 35 years of excellence to Michigan State University and the College of Education as both a professor of teacher education and assistant dean for outreach programs. Among his many contributions, Burke directed the successful Graduate Studies in Education Overseas program, which transformed the college into a leader in international academic programs – specifically in France and Thailand. Burke was also a co-team leader for Learning Communities, a program for students preparing to become teachers.

In 1997, the MSU College of Education honored Burke with a Crystal Apple Award for his outstanding commitment as an educator.
