Teacher education student wins science teaching fellowship

April 27, 2011

Sheila Frederixon, a secondary teacher candidate majoring in mathematics, has been selected to complete a prestigious five-year teaching fellowship with the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation (KSTF).

KSTF Fellows receive significant financial support for expenses such as tuition and classroom materials, rigorous ongoing professional development opportunities and exposure to a valuable network of fellow educators in the areas of mathematics, biology or physical science.

Frederixon, who is from DeWitt, Mich., graduates from Michigan State University this May 2011 and will complete her fifth-year internship at Everett High School in Lansing, Mich. She hopes to continue teaching in an urban high school.

Another secondary math teacher who completed the teacher preparation program at MSU, Anna Polasek, is also completing a KSTF Fellowship. She is now teaching at Michigan Center High School near Jackson, Mich.
