The Graduate Employees Union at Michigan State University has selected the Department of Teacher Education to receive its Outstanding Department Award for 2012. The award recognizes departments at MSU for creating positive working relationships with their graduate teaching assistants.
In addition, associate professor of teacher education Dorinda Carter Andrews received the Outstanding Supervisor Award from GEU for her efforts to support graduate students who are balancing teaching with their own coursework.
Carter Andrews oversees TE 250, an entry level teacher education course required for all teacher candidates and taken by many other students on campus. Along with curriculum review and development,Ā she is responsible for interviewing all potential instructors and for providing support and feedback about their teaching throughout the year.
Professor Suzanne Wilson serves as chairperson of the teacher education department, which employs close to 100 graduate teaching assistants. Congratulations to all faculty and staff in the department!
