October 4, 2012

Paul Slocum, associate professor emeritus and East Lansing resident, passed away on Sept.10 at 86 years old.

Slocum’s early career as a teacher and principal led him to a fellowship to obtain his doctorate in education at Southern Illinois University. He joined the College of Education in 1964 in the Department of Teacher Education, and went on to receive accolades for an innovative video self-critique method he developed to help teach teachers. He retired in 1989.

He touched the lives of many educators and students, serving as an adviser and mentor. He also served the community through the Lions Club and traveled on four continents. For more information, read his full obituary.

Robert E. Floden,  co-director of the Education Policy Center, said Slocum was dedicated to helping students master the craft of teaching.
