Anna Yanke, a special education student in College of Education, was one of 24 to receive an Outstanding Senior Award for the graduating Class of 2012. The award is given each year on behalf of the Senior Class Council division of ASMSU, the undergraduate student government at Michigan State University.
Among other criteria, the awards are given to seniors who have exemplified both personal and academic achievement at MSU and have proved their dedication to Michigan State through their leadership and involvement on campus and in the community.
Specializing in learning disabilities with a teaching major in Language Arts, Yanke has been on the Dean’s List her entire stay at Michigan State. She currently works as an assistant teacher at Peoples Church Preschool, spends time volunteering at Michigan State and student teaching in elementary schools in the Okemos, East Lansing and Lansing area.
Among other notable activities, Yanke was on Michigan State’s 2009-2010 winter guard team, where she competed with color guard teams all over the nation and was the host of Michigan State’s annual poetry reading, Trillium, in fall 2010. She has studied abroad along the east coast of Australia, participated in Alternative Spring Break in Querétaro, Mexico and will be teaching and studying abroad in Cape Town, South Africa this summer.
