Over the next decade, the Common Core State Standards will affect nearly every K-12 student and teacher in the U.S.
A new book co-authored by Kristen Bieda, assistant professor of teacher education, and MSU alumnus Samuel Otten, Connecting the NCTM Process Standards and the CCSSM Practice takes a detailed look at the CCSSM’s Standards of Mathematical Practice and lays out specifics that, for educators, may be easy to overlook.
The authors admit that the ideas included aren’t new, but are linked to previous articulations – including those by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), which share the similarity with CCSSM of crucial aspects of learning mathematics.
Published by the NCTM, the book’s co-authors also include Courtney Koestler and Mathew Felton, both of University of Arizona.
