The College of Education at Michigan State University now offers the Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning, which prepares individuals to design and teach online courses.
The certificate program is housed within the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education (CEPSE), and meets a critical job market demand for online teachers across the state and nation.
Enrolled students will be equipped to apply the latest theories and pedagogy while gaining skills with multimedia and networking tools—aiding in the creation of online learning environments.
“The increasing demand for online teachers will make those certified highly marketable,” said assistant professor Leigh Graves Wolf, who also co-directs the Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program. “Students will gain skills necessary for the 21st century virtual classroom, which offers endless possibilities for online teaching and learning.”
Graves Wolf also stresses the student-centered nature of the program, as well as the department’s creation of customized courses. The three classes required to complete the certificate are offered online.
Upon successful completion of the graduate certificate’s nine credits, students may transfer their credits and apply directly to the MAET program. To learn more and apply, visit the program’s website.
