Assistant professor of Higher, Adult and Lifelong EducationĀ Riyad Shahjahan has been appointed to two boards—both influential in the field of international education.
Shahjahan will serve as member-at-large for the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) Council on International Higher Education. He will also sit on the editorial board for Policy Futures in Education, a journal focused on international education policy.
Nominated by colleagues and voted on by ASHE members, Shahjahan will assist with future directions for the ASHE council, with a strong focus on internationalized higher education research. College of Education faculty member Brendan Cantwell recently served as chair of the council.
An international peer-reviewed journal, Policy Futures in Education fits well with Shahjahan’s research, which is primarily centered on globalization and higher education policy. Professor Lynn Fendler also serves on the journal’s board.
“This journal is one of the few that includes critical work in international education policy,” Shahjahan said. “Where many journals claim to do international work, each issue in this journal is truly published from scholars around the world … I’m extremely honored to have been appointed.”
Both appointments begin in 2014.
