“These and other rankings acknowledge MSU’s continued strengths in education, teaching and learning,” said Jerlando F. L. Jackson, dean of the College of Education. “We will use this as momentum to further our efforts to improve education, health and well-being in 2024 and beyond.”

Michigan State University has been listed among the top-tier institutions globally across all three rankings bodies for several years. In fact, MSU has ranked in the top-10 of the Shanghai Rankings ever since their initial release in 2017, and has ranked in the top-5 since 2018. Four MSU disciplines are in the top-25 in 2023 according Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

Methodologies for the rankings vary across the organizations. Among their calibrations, Shanghai Ranking utilizes factors such as publications and awards; Times Higher Education gauges factors including the learning and research environment; and Quacquarelli Symonds uses research citations and reputation to rank institutions.

“Our high rankings demonstrate the continued impact our college has on research,” added Jackson, who is also an MSU Research Foundation Professor of Education. “Other scholars and organizations see and note our faculty’s work. They recognize MSU as a strong, global leader on many educational issues.”
