After 23 years of diligence and leadership as department chair of Kinesiology at the Michigan State University College of Education, Deborah Feltz has recently announced that she will step down from her position in August, and return to the college’s faculty.
Feltz says she has considered leaving her post for the past year, and thinks about the decision in terms of her life goals.
During her time as department chair, Feltz made several notable accomplishments. Within the past year alone, she was named an MSU University Distinguished Professor and conducted a groundbreaking study about virtual workout partners, using a $150,000 grant from Health Games Research. She has also received the MSU Distinguished Faculty Award (1992), the MSU College of Education Outstanding Faculty Award (1993) and the MSU College of Education Faculty Appreciation Award from the Kinesiology Graduate Student Organization (1995). Feltz has also published more than 100 journal articles and books.
College officials have not yet found a replacement for Feltz, but interim dean Robert Floden says they will coordinate an international search committee to fill the position.
