Alyssa Morley is assistant professor of Global Education and coordinator of the Global Educators Cohort Program.

Morley situates her research and teaching in the fields of comparative and international education, critical feminist studies and global education. Broadly, her work explores how educational processes can deepen—or disrupt—global inequities. She investigates this question through current studies of 1) girls’ schooling experiences in Malawi; 2) study abroad for future teachers and 3) international development policy discourses. With a background in anthropology, she pairs ethnographic and discourse analysis methods in her research. Experience working in the international development field, through the U.S. Peace Corps and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), informs her scholarship.

Morley’s independent and collaborative work has been funded by the Spencer Foundation, Fulbright-Hays and Foreign Language Area Studies and published in Gender and Education, Teaching and Teacher Education, Global Education Review and Education Policy Analysis Archives.

Morley is committed to engaging in collaborative transnational work and contributing to climates of mentoring. At MSU, she coordinates the Global Educators Cohort Program, which supports pre-service teachers in applying global perspectives in their teaching.
