Jack Schwille is a professor emeritus and former assistant dean for international studies in education. He had a 50-year career in international research in education. One of his primary interests has been in cross-national studies of educational achievement, primarily in civic education and mathematics. He was co-director of the 17-nation TEDS-M teacher education in mathematics study, the first international assessment of learning outcomes in any field of higher education based on representative national samples. He also worked extensively on international development in education, primarily in Africa. As a college administrator, he had responsibilities for developing an international dimension in research, teaching and outreach throughout the college. Although he officially retired in 2013, Schwille remains active in scholarship focused on the history and impact of the MSU College of Education. He has been honored for lifetime achievement by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) as an Honorary Member and by the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) as an Honorary Fellow.
